Hi J
You may recall that back in January I reviewed the Glossybox for Men – If not, click that text and read it then come back here. I’ll wait.
Up to speed now? Good. So, the discovery box. It works along the same lines as Glossybox for men. You get 5 luxury samples of Niche grooming brands, once a quarter, delivered to your door. However, this is not another Girl’s beautybox firm expanding their target market. Men Are Useless is run by men, for men. And as men, they know full well that we should not be spending our time at the grooming concessions, but out making things, popping wheelies and fighting baddies.
If you’ve not heard of Men Are Useless before, check out their website, as their roots are in providing the basics every man needs, by post, at a great price.
The Box
The first thing to notice is the pack – it’s wonderfully slim so it can fit in a standard letterbox – a wonderful touch. In addition, it came with a little pack of love hearts as a gift to the postie for safely delivering it – the postie didn’t take them, so they went to my colleague who dropped it off at my desk.
Inside you first see the booklet, which looks great, tied together with a little ribbon, printed clearly with reviews of each and an intro to the box. This is great for one key reason. Once you’ve tried the products and found which you want as full size, you can untie the booklet, and stick the required products to the mirror/fridge/wall to give your better half a subtle hint of what to get you.
More sweets too, which made me smile a lot. Oh the products? I’m getting to those.
So this box contained:
- Organic Homme Wash and Shave (2in1 face wash and shave gel)
- Billy Jealousy Illicit Body Wash
- Shaveworks The Cool Fix (Also featured in Glossybox for Men)
- John Allan's Slick Water (pre-shave)
- Vitaman Foot recovery gel
I like this as they are products we can all use (unless you never shave) and I like the idea of being able to have a full shave with the trial products. The brands are quality but niche enough to be new, and the bottle sizes are spot on too.
Overall, I'm loving this box from Men Are Useless, and am steadily working my way through trialling the products - if any of them amaze me i'll let you know. The selection is good, same for the frequency, and they are presented beautifully but without pretention.
Whether you want to try something new, or help a useless man sort himself out, you could go a lot worse than the discovery box.

So, I would strongly encourage you check this out. I can't find a bad word to say about the company, the products, service or people, so get on board!

I'm a huge fan of Men are useless as a brand. Mr F has reviewed them in the past for me and was definitely impressed.
Men are Useless are definitely ahead of the field when it comes to boxes.
And I loves them lots
I got the same box through. The women folk were cooing over it, until they realised that it was all manly stuff.
I saved up a week's worth of beard, and had a bit of a treat getting through my stuff. Slick water was impressive but I'm most into the combo of face wash and shaving cream - a nice innovation, and a cracking product. I don't enjoy shaving but it was a nice experience, and came up smooth with no irritations. Had my second go on the products last night - I think I've been converted to slick water and the wash and shave,
